Q) Am I eligible to take a home study traffic School?
A) You may choose to attend Traffic Violator School for certain vehicle violations. As of September 20, 2005 holders of commercial driver's licenses are no longer eligible to attend traffic violator school. To be eligible for the Traffic Violator School Program, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- You had a valid non-commercial driver's license at the time you were cited.
- You are not currently attending, and have not attended, a traffic school program within the last 18 months.
- Your citation must be for a moving violation and does not have a misdemeanor or commercial vehicle charge or require a mandatory appearance in court.
- Your citation does not involve alcohol or drugs.
- Your citation is not for Vehicle Code sections 22406.5 or 21655.5.
- If your case involves a failure to appear warrant or civil assessment, the failure to appear charge must be adjudicated or paid in full before you can attend traffic violator school.
Q) How do I get referred to traffic school?
A) If you meet all of the conditions listed above, you may choose to attend Traffic Violator School. You must post the full bail amount and any required proof of correction PLUS a non-refundable administrative fee to the court. No time payments will be allowed. Payment in full must be received prior to applying for traffic school. You must also pay a fee to the school you attend.
After your payment is received, you will receive a statewide list of qualified traffic schools. Home study and Internet courses are allowed. Q) Do you send a certificate of completion to the court or state agency?
A) If you have received your citation through the California counties of BUTTE, MARIPOSA, NAPA, RIVERSIDE, SANTA CRUZ, STANISLAUS or TUOLUMNE, Federal Express and Certified mailing options are not available at this time. These courts require DriveDefensiveCalifornia.com to contact a court program monitoring agency who will supervise your final examination online. Upon your successful completion of the final quiz, this agnecy will send your Certificate of Completion DIRECTLY TO YOUR COURT. Certificates will be mailed within two business days of your completion. The agency will handle all certificate related questions.
Q) How long does it usually take to complete an online course?
A) Students average between 2½ to 7 hours for any selected course.
Q) Once I log on, do I have to stay on the course until I have completed the whole class?
A) No. You can log in and log out once you have set up your username, password and made payemnt online.
Q) How do online classes work?
A) Online classes are similar to face-to-face classes in the sense that there is a real instructor and real students online. The main difference is that the classroom is a web site that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, and that lessons are read by students and review questions are completed online instead of in the classroom. The instructor checks the progress of each student from a remote location by looking at “grades” and “student activity logs.” Logs are a permanent record of your activity in the courses.
Q) Is there a certain time we have to be online everyday?
A) No. You can log on to your class at any time of the day or night and work on your class at your pace.
Q) How long do I have to complete the course?
A) Typically, you have 30 days to complete the course Most students complete within one day, however.
Q) What is an online course?
A) Online courses are conducted over the Internet and do not have regular meetings in a physical space. Students need a Windows or Macintosh computer with at least a modem, an Internet service provider, and a Web browser suchas Internet Explorer, Mozilla, or Firefox. Courses are online at a dedicated course Web site.
Q) How do you know who is taking the course?
A) Identity verification procedures are used by the course provider and the agency that supervises your final examination.
